VALETTA FAYE  $10

Valetta Faye is a vocalist who enjoys transforming her jazzy/soul rendition of a song into a work of art. A former recording artist with Tik Magic City Records, Valetta started singing in Detroit with the Jim Dixon Trio touring the hotel and supper club circuits. Taking advantage of every opportunity, she connected and shared the stage with some of the most talented and gifted artists in the industry.

Her roots are jazz, but her versatility makes her equally comfortable in pop and blues venues. She has been the featured vocalist and/or guest artist for big bands and smaller ensembles. After performances throughout Los Angeles and the San Francisco/Bay Area, she moved to Las Vegas, where she became a resident and performed at Hamilton’s in the New York New York Hotel and Casino.

Since relocating to the Pacific Northwest, Valetta has sought to immerse herself into the music scene. She was a featured vocalist with the Seanotes Big Band performing at the 2016-17 Oak Harbor Music Festivals. Also, the CNATTU Band from Naval Air Station Whidbey Island, Holland Happening, The Jerry Jones Quartet, Ciao’s of Coupeville, the CPO Club of Oak Harbor and the Officers’ Club at NAS Whidbey Island.
A frequent guest of the Skagit Swings All-Star Big Band, performances with the band include: A concert at the Conway School, the 2017 Skagit Valley Fair, the 2017 Anacortes Veterans’ Day Celebration, and a recording session with the band at SkyMuse Studios of Camano Island.

Joining Valetta on the Ott & Murphy stage for her jazz trio performance will be renowned pianist, “Nick” Nicholai and drummer, Scott Small. Holding a Doctorate Degree in Music from Michigan State University, Nick has toured with many jazz bands, including Louis Armstrong, Paul Desmond and other big band musicians. He has worked as a studio musician and continues to perform throughout the area. Scott Small is a well known Whidbey Island drummer who’s versatility and rhythmic talent supports many of the area’s best musical acts.

Valetta has chosen “From Me To You” as the theme for her show because as she says, “Singing is my passion; Music is my soul.”

Trio Nouveau plays lyrical swing featuring Keith Bowers on arch-top guitar, Kristi O’Donnell, acoustic bass with Gary Way, piano and Scott Small, drums.

For this show, Trio Nouveau will be featuring seasonal songs and tunes ushering in the Summer season.

Show time is 7 p.m. Arrive a bit early to get comfy, order your favorite wine & hors d’ouvrés, and enjoy two unique sets of the Great American Songbook of Swing Jazz.

THE KAREEM KANDI BAND $10

A native of the Pacific Northwest, saxophonist Kareem Kandi is a performer, composer, and educator, in high demand for his talents both on and off the stage.

Kareem is a versatile musician with strong roots in the traditions of Jazz, Blues, Classical and Funk, and has been performing on the scene for years, gaining attention from critics and audiences alike. While staying true to musical styles of the past, he also keeps an eye towards the future by composing original music as well as new arrangements of timeless songs from the great American songbook. Kandi’s performance is seamless, natural, artful, classy and inspiring.

Since 1996, Kareem has been performing both as a bandleader and as a sideman to enthusiastic audiences around the world at concert halls, festivals, and clubs. Over the years Kareem has performed, toured and recorded with some of the finest musicians in the music industry including: Pete Christlieb, Patti Labelle, Mark Elf, Ali Jackson, D’vonne Lewis, Bill Watrous, The Seattle Symphony, Mordy Ferber, Julian Priester, The Paperboys, The Northwest Repertory Singers, Thomas Marriot, The Tacoma Symphony, Alex Duncan, Frazey Ford, DJ Hapa, The Polyrhythmics, Bill Ramsay, The Staxx Brothers, Jay Thomas, The Sabella Consort, Greta Matassa, The Temptations, Hadley Caliman, The Four Tops, The Harry James Orchestra, Wayne Bergeron, and many others.

JANIE CRIBBS & T. RUST BAND $12

We are excited to announce the return of Janie Cribbs and the T. Rust band to the Ott & Murphy cabaret stage!

Janie Cribbs and the T.Rust Band have been together for five years playing numerous sold-out and SRO shows at various venues across Washington State. Well known for their intimate up-close and personal performances in smaller rooms, they also love to play out-of-doors for Community Street Dances and ticketed Winery concerts. They have been the featured crowd-pleasing Band in Washington cities such as Oak Harbor, Anacortes, Freeland, La Connor, Langley, Port Townsend, Spokane, Westport and beyond, remembered long after the lights go down for their infectious Roots, Blues and memorable mesmerizing Americana music .

Over the years Janie Cribbs and the T.Rust Band have raised thousands of dollars for local charities at dances and special events all over Whidbey Island. Their commitment to raising up “Live Local Music” has benefited the community and hopefully inspires us all to lend a hand!

The T.Rust Band is currently in the studio finishing up their second all-original CD album release “Queen of Fire” due to drop before their busy Summer Concert Season of 2018.

We warmly welcome the return of the  talented duo of Milo Peterson and Dmitri Matheny to the intimate Ott & Murphy Cabaret stage.

Variety Magazine called Milo “a dynamic guitarist, melodic & bluesy.” The San Francisco Chronicle refers to Dmitri as “one of the jazz world’s most talented horn players.” Dmitri Matheny has received several prestigious music awards, including “NW Instrumentalist of the Year” in the 2016 Earshot Jazz Golden Ear Awards.

With their immense talent combined, this duo presents an evening of jazz, blues, bossa nova, & beyond!

Ott & Murphy is excited to announce an evening of Spanish music, flamenco, Latin musical styles, vocals in Italian, Spanish and dance performance, in a special program created by Andre & Stella entitled “Impressions of Spain / A Mediterranean Night”.  Neo-Flamenco, Virtuoso Ukulele, the Oud, Harp Guitar, Nylon Stringed Banjo ~ join Andre and Stella in sharing the passion of Latin culture and inspiring musical journeys.

Award winning Segovia-trained guitarist/composer Andre Feriante has performed for over 30 years in Europe, South America, and the United States. Beginning with his first concert in Rome in 1979, he has introduced a sensual and contemporary sound to an otherwise traditional genre. His creative blend of classical, flamenco and Brazilian styles speaks to people from all walks of life. In recent years, Andre has garnered rave reviews for applying his innovative approach and guitar mastery to the ukulele and nylon-stringed banjo. Andres’ concerts will take you on an inspiring musical journey with original music, classical and jazz standards, vocals in Italian, and poetry over guitar. He is well known for his calm stage presence and ability to connect with his audience on a deep emotional level.

Andre has released 13 solo recordings in his career the latest two albums are Novella, Ukulele Mosaique and Beatles Masquerade. Stella Rossi better known as Deseo Carmin, is a professional dancer, singer/songwriter, guitarist and percussionist. Originally from Asuncion, Paraguay, she started her artistic career at the young age of 3. She studied at one of the most prestigious Art and Dance Schools in Paraguay were she graduated with a Teaching Degree.

Stella currently performs with her band Deseo Carmin and several other musical ensembles around the Pacific Northwest including a Northwest favorite latin jazz band “Coco Loco”.  Stella Rossi is a recipient of several musical and dance awards and nominations, not only from her native country but also the U.S..  www.deseocarmin.com

HARBOR LIGHTS

Jim Lightner of the Shifty Sailors and Betty Lightner of Island Dance, make up the Harbor Lights Duo. They present a variety of banjo and guitar music from Roaring Twenties favorites to original songs – numbers from James Taylor, Jimmy Buffet, The Beatles, Garth Brooks, and some favorite old standards from the 40’s and 50’s.

MICHELLE MOLNER & FRIENDS $10

We are happy to announce the return of Michelle Molner and friends to the O&M cabaret stage!  Michelle and group will present originals, along with some favorites–both sweet and savory with just enough salt and vinegar tossed in to keep things interesting. Whether it’s in a skillful finger-picking or up-beat rhythm guitar song, Michelle’s music gives you the overwhelming urge to sing and dance along.

Classic Rock and Motown music influenced Michelle’s early life and later she spent several years immersed in the Nashville music scene. These experiences come together to make her original songs feel familiar. It’s the songs you already know that Michelle does in her unique style that will catch you by surprise.
