COMEDY NIGHT:  ED HILL & SIMON KAUFMAN $12

Originally from Taiwan, Ed Hill is an emerging young comic who moved to Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada 22 years ago, thinking he was on vacation at his father’s discretion. Since then, Ed has performed all over the world. He was voted “Best Vancouver Comedian of 2016” by West Ender Magazine, and “Best Vancouver Comedian of 2015” by West Ender Magazine and The Georgia Straight, and named “Comic to Watch” in 2015 by Canadian Immigrant Magazine. He has also appeared on AXS TV’s “Gotham Comedy Live”, “Laughs” on FOX, TED talks, Bite TV’s “Stand up & Bite Me”, and XM Radio’s “Laugh Attack”. He was also invited to perform at Comedy Masala in Singapore, Live Comedy Club in Taiwan, the Hong Kong Comedy Festival, NXNE, San Francisco Comedy Festival, Austin Out of Bounds Comedy Festival, North Carolina Comedy Arts Festival, the Vancouver Comedy Festival and many more.  Ed’s tweets have also been featured on “The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon”, Buzzfeed, The Huffington Post, DOSE, and Distractify.

There are many problems in the world. Luckily we have Simon Kaufman to solve them all for us on stage. Simon Kaufman’s performances are a form of social commentary on society. Taking a stoic philosophical viewpoint towards his life, Simon’s stand up act is like an orator standing in the Forum of Ancient Rome using his humor as a means of speaking to his fellow countrymen.

Growing up in a Jewish home in an inner-city neighborhood has given rise to a very unique comedy style that people fall in love with. Being the only white guy on many of his little league sports teams has left Simon with a rich understanding of all aspects of the American spectrum that few get to have. From the city to the country Simon’s jokes appeal to everybody. Simon Kaufman is a 4th generation comedic actor tracing his roots back to vaudeville, Yiddish theater, and the early days of Broadway. It’s the family business. He’s appeared on The Millionaire Matchmaker on the Bravo Channel, The TV show “The 206”, and the movie Silver Skies with George Hamilton and Dick Van Patten.

Reservations strongly recommended.

THURSDAY October 25th, 7pm

ERIC VANDERBILT-MATHEWS, RANGER SCIACCA & PATRICK BROOKS

Eric, Ranger and Patrick all hot young musical talent that have strong connections to the music and style of Django Reinhardt–have put together a special show of Django style music in our intimate cabaret room!

A Whidbey native, Eric Vanderbilt-Mathews began playing violin at age four, switched to piano a year later, and then picked up clarinet and saxophone in middle school, which have been his focus since.  In 2016, Eric had his first chance to perform at Djangofest NW as a sideman with Ranger and the Re-Arrangers and the Hot Club of Troy. For the past two years he was asked to perform as a leader, assembling an all star band of epic players from across the continent.

Ranger Sciacca (of Ranger and the Re-Arrangers) began playing violin at the age of six. He divided his studies between old-time fiddle and classical violin until a chance encounter with a CD of violin jazz ignited Ranger’s interest in the music of Joe Venuti, Stuff Smith, Stephane Grappelli and Django Reinhardt. Ranger’s playing draws from all the genres he has studied, and, according to one reviewer, “features frantic staccato runs and an overall sense of tone that reveals many shades and moods.”

Patrick Brooks grew up in Seattle, studying classical and jazz guitar from grade school through college. He has been playing Django’s music ever since discovering Seattle’s vibrant gypsy jazz scene and is a member of Silk Road Swing. Patrick plays with a lyrical fluidity that tells you immediately that he is a masterful improviser–Patrick’s phrases each have a unique genesis.

Pay-what-you-will admission.
